AFFILIATED CULTURAL INSTITUTION > ARTOTHÈQUE DE CAEN
PARTNER MUNICIPALITY > CAEN
PARTNER SCHOOL > ÉCOLE RENÉ LEMIÈRE

Born in 1967, he divides his time between New York, Paris and Bandjoun, Cameroon.

Following a workshop in wood sculpture in 1992 which radically changed his approach, Barthélemy Toguo decided to continue his studies in Europe in order to broaden his artistic practice. An internationally recognised polymorphous artist, he uses every artistic means to develop the themes he holds dear: identity, borders, North-South exchanges, questions around displacement, migratory movements, exile. With force, provocation and humour, his installations—mises en scène which blend performance, watercolours, wood sculptures and video—examine a complex social and political context.
