The two containers, transformed into image chambers, enable viewers to leave behind their everyday lives and enter into a world in which the image appears where we don’t expect it, as if suspended in space. Part abstract, part figurative, the projected image recalls the outdoor landscape while at the same time deforming it and shifting it to a pictorial space. The appearance of fragile and shifting images and the reflections on the water invite the viewer to enter a state of contemplation. With his video installations, Bertrand Gadenne creates a contemporary vision of water as an artistic motif, one of the preferred themes of the Impressionist painters.
