H6 / Séverine Hubard

The installation Rigole (la Maison des surveillants de la source en chantier) is part of a dialogue with the utopian architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, who built the Bénouville chateau, located on the other side of the canal from Caen. Hubard proposes to build a fantasy version of one of Ledoux’s unrealised projects: la Maison des surveillants de la source de la Loue from 1768. The scale model of this project, created entirely out of plaster and on view at the Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans, fixes spring water in a solid casting.
Hubard offers an interpretation of this model using materials tied to construction and transportation, which she incorporates in the container. She thus creates a kind of recarious monument, an oversized model, or a miniature building.
